Melissa loves: Mignon Khargie & Hannah Fowler

I first spotted this inspirational team on Designsponge....Mignon is the mom and Hannah is her 7 year old little girl. They inspire each other and create art, together. Hannah's bird- "My inspiration was the black silhouette, how quickly Hannah did it and that miraculous little piece of blue tape. Hannah was cutting some black paper one night and saw these two pieces that fell on the table. She realized that together they'd make a bird's head, so she got out her favorite tape (blue painter's tape), did a little more cutting, then drew in the eye with a white pencil. My favorite part of this was the little overhanging piece bottom left. At the time she was into Perler beads and I thought it would be great fun to use some of her art materials for my interpretation of her drawings. So the perler pieces were put together by me, from her drawings. She helped with color, and was very quick to tell me what wasn't working and where I'd strayed from her originals.  She's very confident about everything she does, and I'm so envious of how quickly and decisively she does it all. " I draw for a living, so that's what I gravitated to when looking for things for us to do together." But, Mignon doesn't just draw, she also makes gorgeous pins and amazing plates (all of which I adore!). Mignon says she has  a list of animals she would like to draw and foxes happened to be next on the list. " I did the research, and was struck by that little flying dance/jump they do to catch some of their prey when they run into their holes in the ground. Foxes have such beautiful coloring, and are so graceful."  As someone who is often inspired by my own daughters and their art I love that Mignon and Hannah have this beautiful creative relationship together. Mignon said that it "makes it fun for both of them" and that Hannah loves it when her folks do projects with her. It can't help but influence who Hannah becomes as a person and as an artist. I love how Mignon describes how her art makes her feel, when it "fits perfectly" and feels right..."It must restore some amount of balance to my life since I feel like I can climb a mountain next."
